Hi
I have an issue with a SA8300 from a Telewest area used in ntl pure, which was previously working fine after replacing the 24C512 chip with a blank chip until the 3_7 update. It is in a permanent update loop. After searching numerous forums a suggested solution was to either reprogram the chip with FF’s and reset the Net ID or, as I’m using the box in ntl pure, simply replace the chip with another blank and it should pick-up the correct Net ID and then take the update. As I don’t have a SOIC programmer, and am unlikely to invest in one with the imminent N3 switchover, I replaced the chip with another blank. I checked in the engineering menu and it had indeed picked up the correct Net ID, yet it still refuses to take the 3_7 update and simply cycles endlessly. I tried a forced update by holding in standby and OK while powering up, and holding in the standby button for 10 secs, but had no luck here either. I realise we'll all be stuffed pretty soon with the advent of N3 anyway , but it would be nice to have a swan song between the 3_7 update and N3. Any help here would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

yeah, these boxes have the same problem as the paces with the atmels needing reflowing. im not saying thats the problem with your box but it seems likely since you put a blank 512 in.
the problem with the 8300 is you cant reflow the flash as you cant get to it. if your desperate and dont mind ruining your box you could try heating the mass of epoxy around the flash. it might just heat up enough to reflow without damaging anything. i mean, the box isnt working now is it so with n3 being finalised in the next month or two you might aswell give it a go
