It's more that if it was one I was using I may have been better clued up to help - I'm currently using a Belkin router and having only recently installed it, still trying to get my head around wireless networks in general.

Bit late but log on to router via browser (IE / firefox etc.) go to enable WEP or WPA-PSK (more secure) and set pass word then enter password via wireless device to gain access.
Its amazing how many unsecure personal WiFi zones are around I drove around trying out Satnav dongle and came across loads

Your network is not secure unless you have WEP,on saying that i have a prog which finds WEP passwords

That is correct WEP can be broken, that is why it is better to use WPA-PSK.
Obviously You need to configure WPA-PSK on your windows XP/Vista wireless client as well as your wireless router.
You will see a padlock against your wireless network when you view available wireless networks and it should say WPA. Then you know your network is secure.

Cool Re: securing wireless network

Foley, netgear installers usually leave a router login shortcut on your desktop. If not, open up IE or Firefox and enter 192.168.0.1

Username is usually admin and password is the same unless you have changed it.

This should bring up the routers control panel. Select wireless settings on the left. Under security select an option. WEP at the least, but preferably WPA/PSK. There should also be a box to enter a key. Make it something you remember, but something unique. Password is not a good choice!!

Then on your connecting pc's it will ask you for the security key to connect.

Job done.

Exclamation Re: securing wireless network

Apologies Foley. The original poster was using a netgear. Your belkins webadmin should be at 192.168.2.1
