Hi all. I am getting increasingly fed up with freeview, they keep taking away the decent channels and replacing them with quiz call type channels. With the nature of my business I never know what the cashflow is going to be like so cant even contemplate signing up to a monthly package for anything. I have a Nokia mediamaster 9850 box which was given to me by the mother in law which has a slot for a card and she used to use it for on digital. Firstly are there any tricks to recieve top up tv with this box? Secondly what are my other options with satelite etc? I dont mind an initial spend when I am flush in order to buy the equipment, but as I said, I cant commit to a monthly package. I am mostly interested in the discovery channels and extreme sports channels, the mrs is mostly interested in the uktv channels and the kids would really like boomerang because they have a scooby sunday special! I would probably tend to go for secondhand equipment since I dont see the point in spending vast fortunes on the latest equipment that will be out of date by the end of the week, so any advise on where to buy and what to buy etc? Also a neighbour has an old sky plus box (i think it is an amstrad) which he has offered me for nowt if I can make use of it so is there anything I can do with that?

The only problem with something for nothing is that you sometimes get nothing for nothing - ATM, all the major packages that have been hacked are closed. There are still some pay channels open on patched receivers, but not many. I'm guessing they will return, but no telling when.
In your case though, even a FTA box will get more channels than you get with Freeview. The receivers that are easily patched include the Technomate TM 1xxx series and the Manhattan ST series, of these the Technomate patches usually appear first. There is a Manhattan ST200 on ebay from a reputable seller - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MESE%3AIT&rd=1 Contact me direct if you're interested - you would also need a dish and a diseqc motor. |
