Default Rumors of Wii selling for ~$200.00

Considering the cheapest PS3 will be $500.00 and the price of the 360 now, this may make a huge difference to the company with the unique controller and the even more unique name.

If they can pull off a $200 price tag, I think they can shake up this next generation of consoles, as the $500-$600 that Sony is looking for is simply not going to be affordable for all families. That means those families may end up with a Wii regardless of the software. Which also means the software will follow the units.

Quote:
BEAN counters at Merrill Lynch are claiming that Nintendo's new console will have a Wii price tag of just $200. In a report, analyst Justin Post said that the outfit will probably release the Wii to undercut the XBox 360 and send the hugely expensive PS3 packing.
The move is expected as a way of getting more software developers to write more games for the machine.
So far Nintendo has not said how much the Wii would cost. Post said the Wii will appeal to a broad demographic of both hard-core and casual gamers.
However, it has less processing power than the Sony and Microsoft consoles making it easier to create new software. Post thinks third-party game publishers are responding favourably to this concept.

It makes total sense - so far the console market has been treated as an even field - if Nintendo force it into a two-tier market, it could seriously establish itself better with a lower-end and cheaper solution.

Yeah the more I see about the Wii, the more excited I am. The new controller, the goofy name, the lower price, and now I hear a lot of sports titles might be heading for the Wii. I really think this could happen.
