Null Modem Cable for 1500CI+

Just bought a cable from ebay, which claims it can be used for Technomate, but unable to establish link between PC & RX, I get "Com Port unavailable". I have downloaded the Technomate 1000 Series downloader and the .STB file. I assume my serial port is on Com 1 (I only have one serial port). Auto detect does not find the port.
Wiring of this cable is different to that shown in Technomate manual.
(1 - 1; 2 - 3; 3 - 2; 5 - 5).
Supplier claims to have sold 20,000 of these cables to Technomate dealers with no problems!
Can anyone please suggest a stockist for suitable cable & is the Technomate manual correct?
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Clipper
Thanks for your help. We bought our cable from the same guy! I have just found out that my cable works fine on my old PC. I transferred the Technomate software to the old Pentium 2 PC and it uploaded to the receiver fine. That old PC does not have an Internet connection though. I don't know what the problem is with this PC but it is not finding the Com port. No doubt I will sort it out eventually. For the moment patching my receiver is on hold.
