Hi,
I'm setting up a school network and i want to disable student access to control panel, display settings etc. This seems to be standard on public accessed computers e.g cyber cafes, schools etc. Can someone please advise on how to do this? Windows limited account doesn't restrict enough. There is third party software to do this or you can edit the reg both of which i'd rather not do. The systems will be running XP Pro Regards Phil |

I'm afraid network are a little over my own head, but welcome to TechWatch anyway.
![]() If it's not a silly question, can software such as NetNanny help? |

Hi Brian,
Thanx for your welcome and response. I do not use net nanny so i'm not sure how the advance settings restrict. I can restrict with peer to peer but the restrictions also apply to the admin account as well. This can be a real pain if something goes wrong because you have to re-enable all your settings to get at the tools to resolve the problem. Again thanx for the reply Regards Phil |

No problem - like I said networks are a bit over my head personally, but *possibly* this may be of help?

There is a program called folderguard that will allow you to control acess to things like control panel.
http://www.winability.com/folderguar...trol-panel.htm As for native control and restricting those items, here are a few other things I found. Registry hack for control panel: http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/543/ hiding control panel: http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/153/ deny access to display settings: http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/167/ |
