What do you think about all the Smartphones? I know there are several out there. I know the majority of them are a bit pricey and bulky. But the fact is what do you think about the advances they are making in the Smartphone area?
Here are some of the Smartphones that are out there on the market today: T-Mobile Sidekick (my son wants this one) Blackberry 8700c Palm Treo 700w (which is the one I really like and want) Nokia N90 I know there are others out there. But this is all I could think of. |

I think the big issue with smartphones is that - in my opinion - they are as much a lifestyle accessory than a general requirement. So if you're going to be away from the PC all day regularly, but need to use the internet constantly - such as running a business - then certainly there's a place. At present, though, I don;t have that sort of lifestyle requirement.
Or do you think I've got the issue confused? |

No you dont have any issues confused. I would think people would get the smartphone for precisely what you are talking about. Running a business and being away from the computer.
But I know some who just buy the smartphone because they are the latest technology. Like my brother who's job is primarily at the computer all day. Still but a treo. He just likes to update his phones when a new design or bigger and better one comes out. But he says he is going to stick to the treo becaus of the price tag. I think he said something like $700. |

That is really expensive for a phone. My college friends, who do nothing else but communicate among friends about school stuff and partying, buy themselves smartphones. They can afford it, so why not. But as use in business? Certainly not. They fancy the features, being trendy, and make a lot of use with the video and music capabilities of the phone.

I think it's just a trendy accessory as well. If you're running a business from your car, okay, maybe you need it. But $700 is alot for a toy to play with.
