I have been informed this morning that the release of the iCord HD box on the German market has been delayed but they do not know for how long. Two German dealer have kept in touch with me and one of them gave me the news this morning. This sounds like the DB 8000 business all over again. I do hope that Humax treats their potential customers a little better than the DB people and at least give us updates on a release date. A Happy New Year to all our members. TMULL

Hi Son-t, yes I have installed the new firmware and to me the box is behaving more or less the same. What the new firmware did was to enable the ethernet port. As I am not too well up on computers I did not see much advantage but my son has managed to connect his pc to his icord as his house is wired up for networking. He and other members are still struggling to sort out the access to files ect,but members of a german forum dedicated to the icord are working on the problem. I hope that when this is sorted out that some programs will be written for this box. If you like PM me and I shall point you to more information.TMULL

Thanks Tmull,
I was just interested, because someone said Humax had successfully implemented FTP on the ethernet port - and that is was working well... From what you are saying, it is not! Interesting... I would not like Humax to go down this route for the Freesat PVR they are working on... Like you say, not many people are interested in firing up a PC, connect via FTP and then transfer files! What would be easier for people, would be to connect an external USB hard drive, to transfer files. And really, this method should be for 'archiving' purposes... and so being able to transfer programmes back to the box would be a useful facility - for viewing! |

I have finally given up on the iCord. It has been a very poor buy and I wish to appoligise to any member who has purchaced on reading my posts. It is nothing short of an expensive disaster. The C/O of german Humax went on the Dr .Dish television progrsamme and said it was Linux based and would be the media center of the futhur. I certainly was taken in by him but there has been no development of this box and it was very poor on its release . It now has major cam compatibility problems and no one is interested in addressing the problem. Yesterday I bought my self a Technomate 6900 HD as I just could not deal with the problems of the iCord any longer. Any member contplating getting one should think again. It is proberly the poorest HD receiver on the market. TMULL

Believe it or not I still have my iCord. On powering it up today( A very rare occasion now) it locked up. Blue power button lit up and a message came on the panel Starting System. No response to remote control or will not power down on pushing the power button on the front. A few reboots using the power button on the back has not improved matters. Anyone have any idea please. Motorboy,Some of the latest firmware available on Humax German website enables the lan connection on the box. I do not know what that will do as I am not too into computors. Most of the firmware that was released since the box came out is pretty useless. I believe they know they have a dud on their hands and occassianly release a bit of useless firmware to give the impression they are going through the motions. In all probility my box would have to go back to germany for repair so I dont think it is worth the bother. Good luck with yours, hope you are not as disapointed as I am.TMULL
