Hi Guys
I'm having a severely hard time getting my Dbox2 to flash a new image. I've tried using the Image Flashing Assistant as well as BootManager on it's own with no success at all (I work in IT by the way, so I know what I'm doing!) I bought the Dbox2 from ebay, and when I plug it in it comes up with 'kein system' on the display. When I attempt to flash it using the either IFA or BootManager, I get a 'boot net failed' error every time. I cannot FTP into the box either when 'kein system is displayed, all I can do is reset it by pressing the power + up buttons together. Any thoughts on the 'boot net failed' problem guys? |

Sorted it!
The latest versions of IFA knocking around didn't want to work with my box (nokia 2xintel), which i think had something to do with bootfile versions (ppcboot definately didn't work). I ended up finding an older version of IFA which is purely english (found here - http://www.dboxservice-hallenberg.de/freedownloads.php). Yes the site is german, however the program installer allows you to select your language. Anyway this version of IFA uses U-boot 1.1.2 rather than ppcboot 0.6.4, which worked a treat! Only took me 8 hours to find! |

Pedro’s Beginners Guide To Setting up a DBOX 2 Using Windows XP’s FTP Program Using Google will help you find forums from which You can download any programs and images required This guide has been written for education purposes only. I do not condone watching subscription channels without paying Beginning You will need cable broadband or internet installed in your house to begin with (preferably TV minimum package). This ensures the power levels coming through the cable are correct. If you have to split the cable do so with good quality f-splitter. The f connection on the end of the cable coming into your house is not the correct type for the dbox. You will require an f to coax converter. For this guide the box you purchase must be in debug mode. This allows you to flash a new image onto the box. Finally, you will need a pc with an Ethernet connection and a network crossover cable. Setting up the Network on your PC Now you must plug one end of the Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port on the back of the dbox. The other end should be plugged into your PC. The following instructions are for Windows XP: 1. Click on the start menu, settings, network connections. You will see a window similar to the one below Find the network connection which your crossover cable is plugged into. This is usually called Local Area Connection. Disable any other connections by right clicking on them and selecting disable Right click on the Ethernet connection and select Properties In the window that now appears let click on “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)†and then click the properties button Input the following settings as shown in the window below and click ok Click ok in the next window and then make sure the “Local Area Connection†is enabled Setting up the DBOX Attach your Dbox to your TV using a scart lead and then power up the dbox. It will take a few minutes to fully boot up. At this point you will only have a blank screen and no channels. Press the dbox button on your remote control. This will bring up the main menu. Scroll to the settings option and press OK. You should now be in the settings menu. Scroll to network and select OK. Scroll to “IP Address†and press OK. Type in 192 168 000 100. Press OK Scroll to “Subnet Mask†and press OK. Type in 255 255 255 000. Press OK Scroll to “Broadcast†and press OK. Type in 192 168 000 255. Press OK Scroll to “Default Gateway†and press OK. Type in 192 168 000 002. Press OK Scroll to “DNS Server†and press OK. Type 192 168 000 002. Press OK Select the option to “Start/Restart Network Now†Which Image To Use? The DBOX comes in two different memory configurations. It will have either one chip or two chips; which will be either Intel or AMD (or a combination of both). To find out what you have you need to check the motherboard. The chips are about a 1/3 from the top and a ¼ way in from the left. You can either take the cover off of the box to check or shine a torch through the vents This is a picture of Intel chips. They have the Intel logo printed on the top and Flash written on the side AMD chips have small writing and are more difficult to identify. If you look closely you will see they have AMD written on them As a rule most sagem boxes have one Intel chip. You would use a 1x image for this box. Nokia boxes will have 2 Intel or 2 AMD chips and a 2x image would be required for these. Image Getting Time I would recommend the cryo sportster image. It is very reliable and gives great picture quality. A good Google search will direct you to sites which have these images and much more. Download the compressed image fiel (zip or rar) and extract it to your desktop Time to Flash the Image There are a few ways to flash an image to a box. I have found the easiest way is to use Windows XP’s ftp program. Load up Internet Explorer In the address bar enter ftp://root:dbox2@192.168.0.100/tmp If this does not work then change the word dbox2 to dbox You should now be presented with a list of folders similar to that shown below Drag the image from the desktop into this window. The image will now transfer over to the box Writing the Flash File to the Box On the remote press the DBOX button then go to the services Menu. Scroll to “software update†or “Image Update/Backup/Restore†and click OK Scroll to “Expert Functions†or “Flash Read/Write†and click OK Scroll to “Write One Partition†and click OK Scroll to “Flash without Boot loader†and click OK Select the image from the list. It should be the only one there Select Yes to flash the image The dbox will flash the image and reboot. Once it has booted back up you will have to set the box network settings again. Go back to the setting up the dbox section of this guide. Once you have set the box network settings again proceed to the following section. Setting the box up for your area This is where you set the box up for your particular area. To do this you will require the correct services.xml and bouquets.xml files. Once again by using Google you will find sites that provide these. Once you have the correct files its time to transfer them to the box Transfering services.xml Load up Internet explorer and put ftp://root:dbox2@192.168.0.100/tuxbox/config/zapit/ In the address bar Transfer the services.xml and the bouquets.xml into this folder. Do not restart the digibox. Pull the power cord out of the back. Leave for a few seconds and plug it back in Should Now Work Ensuring the cable feed is connected to the aerial socket using an f to coax adapter power up the box. The box will boot up showing information about the image you have just installed. Leave the box for five minutes and then press 1 on the control. You should be taken to channel 1 and you should now have tv. Troubleshooting If your box does not connect to the pc ensure you are using a CROSSOVER cable not a straight through If you receive a KEIN SYSTEM error then you have install the wrong image. Use Google to hunt for a forum that contains a fix got this info from some1 else from another forum, iv not done this myself so i dont know if its correct |

reboot your pc and then run the IFA flash program with the appropriate image selected and make sure the correct network adaptor is selected. This should work as it has for me each time. |
