Default General Satellite Questions

General Satellite Questions

Q) How can I get more than 1 satellite?

A) You can have more than one dish, or have up to four “offset feed” LNBs on the same dish but at most these can only be for satellites within 10-15° of each other.
A motorised dish will provide a greater selection of satellites from across the whole sky. Users of small dishes up to 90cm can use simple DiSEqC 1.2 motorised mounts. Dishes of 1m and above will need a more powerful and complex 36v motor drive.

Q) What are DiSEqC and USALS?

A) Digital satellite equipment control is a standard created by Eutelsat for receivers to select between LNBs and control motorised dishes. A DiSEqC-Compatible receiver sends pulses at 22kHz, along the LNB cable to control a DiSEqC switch or motor.
Mini-DiSEqC switches can select between two LNBs, DiSEqC 1.0 is used for upto 4 LNBs, DiSEqC 1.1 for up to 16 LNBs, using two sets of pulses.
DiSEqC 1.2 uses the pulses to instruct a “smart” motor to move east or west, or go to a present position. USALS (also known incorrectly as DiSEqC 1.3 or gotoX) uses an even smarter mount which can find any position in the sky based on a single reference bearing and the users longitude and latitude.

Q) What are ‘Feeds’?

A) Broadcasters often use satellite links – feeds – to transfer programming to remote locations before broadcast. Feeds may be unedited, containing bloopers and footage unsuitable for broadcast. Many are unencrypted, although sport feeds are becoming rare and broadcasters are moving to the technically superior MPEG4:2:2 format.

You already have Astra 2 as you said you get Freesat. As for hotbird, it is unlikely that you will get that with a monoblock with Astra 2.

Please tell us what size dish you have, the monoblock type, and post a photo if you can, as a description unless done carefully is ambiguous.

Probably not a faulty monoblock.

You can forget hex files, for the Magic Cam, support for these ended a long time ago.
There are still some 6 in 1 files, for funcards, but these are practically useless, as providers upgraded their encryptions leaving very little viewable, plus most receivers now do more than cams, or cards.
What receiver do you have, make and model?
