I'm coming back to the U.S. and will have to get another cell phone for back there. Until I am certain how much I'll use one (since I live in a part of the country with limited signals to begin with), I want a pre paid phone rather than a contract until I am certain which is best. What's the best pre-paid plan?

Good question - I know in the UK I chose a top-up and go option, simply because I never use my mobile enough to justify a monthly fee.

I find the differences in the pre paid plans between the UK and US really interesting. Prepaid has just never taken off in the US and it beats me as to why it hasn't. It makes so much more sense for many people.

I think it also varies where you live in the States. I had a prepaid and was just happy with it.
I know that a few adults that I know that have teenagers have given them prepaid phones. And that it is the teens responsibility to pay for the minutes. If a family has a family plan that it its much better use of money and time to not go for the prepaid plan. Calls between users that are with the phone service provider call free. I had sprint and got two phones free for my teens. My sister and brother both had sprint as well. So our calls were free. But our mother chose to go with Cellular. To me it just depends on what you are going to use it for and who you will talk to. |

As far as the best plan, that depends completely on where you live and what's offered.
We use prepaid for myself and my daughter because it is only for emergencies. Because we rarely use it, we spend much, much less than on a plan. My husband has one from work. If I planned to use it a lot, I'd look at plans. |

We have a Vigin Mobile by Kyocera for our prepaid plan. There are alot of different options to choose from. We got the phone at walmart. I am sorry but I cannot remember how much it was. But it has worked well for us. I want it basically just in case the car would break down or I had an emergency of some kind well out and about.
