Before you go out and spen cash on a booster, its always worth doing a few simple checks on your line.

1. Unplug any other cable equipment connected to the feed.
2. Move your box to where the cable feed comes into the house (the white box with N*L Or TeleW**t written on it) and use the shortest cable possible.
3. boot the box up then hit RED then BLUE on your remote after the menu has gone. It should give you a screen with BER SNR SIG on a graph
BER = Low as possible (between 0 and 500 is OK)
SNR = High as possible (More Signal Less noise)
SIG = High as possible

If the SNR is too low you wont get a picture and a booster wont help too much either as you'll just boost the noise with the signal.

If the SIG is low a booster is the way to go (Bear in mind SNR) one with a dial as steve said is better as you can control and tweak it to get the best out of your setup

if BER is 26214 or Higher it usually means a faulty tuner (but i have had perfect picture with BER of 60,000+)

Hope this helps.
