Default any tutorials out there?

hiya guys im looking for some info on cable modem hacking. there doesnt seem to be much information in this forum with regards to this but am hoping someone would be able to point me in the right direction.

I remember reading a bit about this a while bak but the details and where i read it have slipped me. Would i be right in saying that its something to do with connecting a special cable, changing mac addresses and such?

Any guides/tutorials/files out there?

If the information is not being posted on the forum for a reason, then maybe someone could help me out via pm instead?!?

if you want to modify/hack your modem you will need RS-232 to TTL cable
which has four wires which are marked (g)=ground (v)=positive (r)=data-in (t)=data-out
now open up your modem and you are lookin for a console port, look for 4 metal pins sticking up from the board or for four solder pads with nothing connected to them.
once you think you have found them then you will need a multimeter to test the pins. to make sure you have the console port
The ground pin should have perfect continuity to the metal plate on the back of the modem. (connects to (g)
now plug in the modem and use your multimeter to find the voltage pin, which maintains a steady 3.3 or 5V. (connects to (v)
The Tx pin of a console port on the modem should be at about ±3V, (connects to (t)
while the Rx pin should remain at 0V. (connects to (r)
connect or solder the four on the wires on your RS-232 to TTL cable
then plug the other end into com1 serial port at the back of the pc
thats the hardware side of things done
now firmware what you will need is called sigma in this theres a programme called EtherBoot it a terminal emulation program that is customized for cable modems
it looks down stream and gets the mac address ect you need
then use sigma to upgade the modem with you new info
THATS IT EASY LOL hope it helps

Most of the Surfboard 4100 and 4200 modems will netboot over the ethernet cable - no need to open them at all. You may see some on ebay with hackware already installed, just add a valid mac and config file name and go
