Default Help for a newbie...

Hi Everyone,

I got a Echolink el-700 FTA Super.

I did have all the channels working, well the ones I wanted...
Let me explain, I bought it from a guy who was selling it, as he no longer needed it. He also gave me the software and the cable to update it when I needed to.

ALI Mini Upgrade 5.2 14-05-2008
ali_dvbs_29C_073008.bin

I have been trying for ages to upgrade it, but I am always incountering an error when my computer is trying to find the reciever...

The question I have is this:
Do you need to have the satilite cable plugged into the reciever when it is connected to the computer?
As this is the only thing I can not do, as the cable is 1 room, and the computer is in another.
The cable I am using is a serial port one, so that is not a problem.

Can anyone help?
Has anyone had this same experience...
Slowly all the channels are getting 'Encrypted' and only the FTA is on...

This is the Message:
Please power on your STB.
Open Serial Port..
Sync to serial port..
Target not connect or target is error status!

Thanks alot,
nickyv

Not sure if you managed to sort this..

You don't need the LNB cable connected when upgrading the receiver from a computer

You need a Null Modem cable (Pins 2 & 3 are cross-connected). A straight RS232 wont do

To update.. Connect the Null Modem lead from your computers Com port to the RS232 port on the receiver with the receiver in standby
Start the loader program and select the update (patch or keys).. and then press the Start upload button..
Now turn the receiver off standby to 'on'.. and the update should start..
If not then ensure you have the correct Com port number selected in the Loader screen..

If the computer still says it cannot find the receiver then you either have some problem with the Null Modem lead or the receiver which will need further investigation.. and possibly you will need to ask the guy you got your receiver from about this
