Default Long range Wifi

Can anyone help please?. I need to set up a Wireless Lan with a range of approx 500 meters.

My biggest concern is that there will be up to 80 small portable pc's in the network, all within the 500 meter range. My initial thought was to use a D-Link DWL-1750 external router on a server with an amplified antenna on a PCI card for the other pc's.

Does anyone have experience of this type of installation?

So long as you set it up right it shouldn't be a problem - but in my opinion your biggest concern is going to be security - if you're pushing to have a long range wireless network, you absolutely want to ensure you protect against third-parties easily accessing the network and the data on the PCs in the network.

2c.

Is it incredibly easy for third parties to access your computer when you have a WiFi connection?

Can be if it's not secure and they're in range.
