Dish Setup, Major Headache

Ok guys, I've put up the mounting pole and it's plumb vertical. Put the motor on and according to a piece of software that came with the signal meter I have to align the motor to 35 degrees elevation. After this I put the dish on and using the software it then tells me to align the dish to 27 degrees elevation. Connected the LNB and receiver and moved the dish using the manual button on the motor to make sure the motor worked, everything's ok. Went inside and using the USALS setup I moved the dish to THOR 1 West. I could hear the motor moving the dish through the open window, yipee I thought it's working. Upon checking outside everything was ok. Went back inside and clicked on either the exit button or menu button twice and I could then hear the motor moving again. Upon checking outside the dish has been moved from 1 degree west to 5 or 6 degrees west, why? I've checked all the settings for the receiver on the tv and everythings ok, just no picture. I've moved it to 13E (Hotbird) and 28.2E (Astra 2) and the same thing happens, it's out by about 5 or 6 degrees. Anyone offer any help?

TIA

I would set the dish as a referance point to 1deg first, save it and manually move the dish to all the other satellites and save them one by one.

Motor the dish to where it thinks 1w is - then manually set it at 1w with your meter. See if the usals setup works.

Remember setting up a motorized dish isn't meant to be easy - thats what people like me are for

Ok, thanks for the replies. Looks like I won't get much done today as it's chucking it down with rain at the moment.

Update, ok reset the motor and factory reset the receiver. Moved the motor only as the dish is off to Thor 1 west but it's moved it to 1 east, why? I thought with the dish off I was possibly looking at it wrong so I moved it to 13E Hotbird and it moved it east, only problem is it's sitting at about 18 or 19 east. Where am I gaining the extra 5 or 6 degrees? I've used Multimap and put my postcode in to get my latitude and longtitude, how should this be entered on the sat setup? e.g. 05.5w 55.9n or round everything up? will rounding up make a major difference? Also should I start with the motor/dish pointing exactly south? or have it pointing the say way as say my sky dish for Astra 2 sat? Sorry for all the questions.

Another update. Got the dish aligned and can get just about all East satellites, Thor 1 West keeps going to 1 East though which has me stumped. Anyway I'm not getting any satellites on the West bearings at all. Does this mean to get all satellites I have to go between 28.2 East Astra 2 and 30 West Hipasat and fine tune the dish till I can get both on a good signal?

hi m8,
have you read and are you following the tutorial on how to set-up a dish
i would put the dish on the motor and set the motor to zero then
loosen the motor brackets and manualy move the system to 1w
and find a strong signal from thor at 1w then tighten all the brackets
then follow this set-up guide to the letter, and see how you go on.
look here-

Yes m8 I was following the USALS setup, had a bit of success with it then gave up. What my brother and I did at the finish up was to get a good strong signal on 28E Astra 2 and tighten everything up. Got all the East bearing sats bar about 2. Anyway I've updated to the latest Darkman loader/patch and I've loaded in the latest softcam keys but I haven't got a clue how to use the keys once they are loaded.

hi m8, you will get a good signal from 28e it's a very strong sat in the uk. but you wont be on the correct satellite arc.
i'm sure you will struggle unless you start your set-up
from 1w and i dont think you will ever get the dish set correcty.
lincsat is the man you need advice from and i know he will correct me
if i'm wrong. theres not much with the patch unless your able to get
astra 19e/ hotbird 13e and hisspasat what are you able to receive.
when you load the softcamkeys you dont do anything when they are
installed they update the encryptions and keep your chns open.

The only major package the patch is opening is TPS/Multivision on 13e.

I would always start at 1w (to set your almost due south) then peak the dish with strong sats to the east and west (usually Astra 2 and Hispasat). When it tracks those three perfectly the dish is pretty much set. Then it's time to find and scan the other satellites.
