Default Belkin wireless access point

Anybody know how i use a belkin f5d7130 just as an access point to connect to my existing netgear wireless router ?

I plan to plug this into my xbox once working but cant even get it working on my laptop yet.

Anybody know how to do this please ?

Does the SSID and channel need to be the same as the one i want to connect to ?

I have done this with another access point (3com) and it worked straight away, any clues would be gratefull.

Thanks

Alan

Are you saying you want to set up two wireless routers for two different devices?

If it's not a silly question, why not simply have the Belkin as your wireless router and set up the devices to that?

This can be tricky Alan. Most routers do not allow you to do this, as it would not allow the router manufacturer to sell access points for more money.

I have a Linksys that I have put a modified firmware on where I can use it as an access point, otherwise it is hit an dmiss.

It would be great if they just gave up the charade and let the routers work as access points, but they haven't so far.

It is possible but not as easy as you would think using 2 routers. A better option is 1 router and a wireless gateway/extender. If you must do it router to router then you will need a router that has a client mode option. This usually only comes on high end kit. But.... The there'#s an option. DDWRT.

Using this third party firmware will turn your router into an all singing all dancing bit of kit. The firmware also works with certain other routers. I managed to flash it on to a Belkin, but the ethernet ports didn't work then. Which meant it was useless for what I needed it for.

There is the dothaxxed firmware also, but I haven't tried it yet.
