Keys and Cams

I've had a trawl thru the sticky posts but I'm a little bit lost with regards to keys and cams. Can someone in plain English explain how they work? I have a Technomate 1500ci+ super with motorised dish. Can I download any keys for the 1500 or are the keys specific to each receiver etc. I've updated the keys and Darkman patch etc but I'm not noticing any difference to the channels I'm receiving. Do I have to enter keys manually or will the updating I'm doing thru the PC be all that I need to do to unscramble certain channels?

The patch will usually contain some keys, you may also need to load a keyfile which is a good way to add recently discovered keys for channels. BISS keys (like for sexview) need to be added with the remote.

The keys are the same for everything although the layout of the keyfile may differ

would it be any advantage If you bought a dragon cam for a technomate 1500 over trying to download the patches and keys? would you get more channels that way? the dragon cams seem dear enough though, would you also need to purchase something to enable you to write hex files onto the cards?

You would need a card programmer or a cas3 to program updates to the dragon/t-rex cam. The big advantage of the t-rex has been the availability of Premiere although this went black a few days ago.

do you mean a usb infinity card programmer? can you just put a dragon cam straight into the top slot on a tms1500ci+ and then use the card programmer to write the hex files on to the cards? if you make these cards with the hex files on them can you view the channels for long or do you constantly have to update the cards?
