Hi all,
I'm about to try and get some more milage from my Humax 5400 and will direct it away from Astra/Hotbird to 28.2 to get the UK channels. I have a prettty good ideas where to point the dish (dual lnb) using google earth and a cool dishpointer website. But here is my problem..... As I do not have any channels from 28.2 programmed on my hummie how can I know if I have the dish pointed correctly. I tried to program channel 4 using manual search but obviously it did not find it as I am still on Astra/Hotbird. So its a chicken and egg situation. If there is a way of forcing the hummie to accept a channel from 28.2 then I'm away. But I have not figured out if this is possible. The other way I thought of was to upload a new hnf file with the UK channels included. But this is where I came into my com port problem. My laptop keeps sayimg "check you communication port (error:2)". It used to work fine before with the right cable and everything. I tried using other laptops and even tried with a usb/serial adapter. No Joy. I'm planning to get a Humax foxsat HD receiver but I'd like to get it running on my hummie first, if possible. Any ideas or suggestions or advice are very welcome. Cheers. FM |

If you tried your hummy with other laptops and still got the same error message then this definitely means the receiver's com port is not working. It could probably be another thing such as a wrong program or file, so why not try other loaders? Why don't you also try on a PC?
As for scanning Astra 28.2, I don't think you need to force your hummy to do anything, you just can search any channel on any satellite fine. You need to go to the Search menu (I don't remember what it is exactly called, BEFORE you hit manual search, select the satellite from one of the options (Antenna maybe?), once you select the satellite just press OK and you'll be taken to the manual search menu automatically, there you enter a freq, I always enter this one: 12032 H - 27500 You can find more here: http://www.lyngsat.com/28east.html Good luck |

Thanks Ragabadder, Yeah, I tried other loaders too. So i guess the hummie com port is up the spout.
I tried the manual search but remember I am searchin a channel on 28.2 while my dish is still on 19e. Will it still find it? When I choose Antenna Alternative I'm not sure it's displaying 28.2. There is one that says Astra 2 but it did not work either. Maybe I need to integrate 28.2 on the satellite list? How? Ah well! |

I'm not familiar with this receiver but using other receivers as a guide what I would do is load a good quality known channel list which includes that satellites channels as you have suggested,..with respect to the com port,..again experience of other receivers suggests that both the com. port speed settings of the receiver and the computers com. port speed settings need to be the same,...you can't have the computer sending at 115k baud speed and the receiver expecting 9.6k baud speed,...try that first before assuming your com. port is up the spout,......regards

If you can get hold of a $ky Tv box use this to postion your dish..
It's easy to setup in the menu and you just have to move the dish (looking at surrounding 28.2 dishes directions to get a rough idea.. When the dish is correctly positioned you will get a 4 digit code showing on the $kybox setup page (i forget what the code is but maybe Colin will remember it) Once the dish is aligned you simply connect your Humax and scan the satellite in the normal way..
