BBC 'angry' about date of 'X Factor' final

BBC executives have reacted angrily to the news that the X Factor final has been rescheduled to clash with its Sports Personality Of The Year awards.

The broadcaster's ceremony has been shown on a Sunday evening for the past 20 years, but the 2009 programme will be forced to go head-to-head with ITV's top show.

In previous years, both parts of the X Factor final have been shown on the Saturday night, but the last instalment of the current series is due to be shown on Sunday December 13, at the same time as Sports Personality Of The Year.

A BBC spokesman commented: "It's a real shame ITV chose to change the date as it will now clash."

However, ITV said that the shows were aimed at different audiences.

A spokesman added: "It has always been our intention that the X Factor live shows would run on Saturdays and Sundays through the current series."
