Default HDD Sat recording format

Can anyone tell me what the format is of recordings made to HDD from Sat.TV ? I need to convert to DVD and need to know the original format used by TV program. I believe it may be .tps or. tp ?
Thanks Peter

Hi

It most probably is .tps. You can use a program called minidump to dump the header of the file in a hexadecimal format which should tell you the format of the file.
The top lines of the output from minidump should show you something like this:
Code:
MiniDumper v1.07 - (C) 2004-08 By Marco Pontello - http://mark0.net

File name: I:\pvr\2008-C Cinma Frisson[15-12_0310]-44\000.tps
File size: 946644KB
.

You can download minidump from here.
Code:
http://mark0.net/soft-minidumper-e.html

hope this helps

I think you could be into the world of TsRemux [Google] if you want to fiddle with the output of these files and since they are in FAT32 you have to string them together via DOS copy plus commands if you are going for a low tech solution. I use videoredo [it won a BBC Click Online prize a couple of years ago, and it auto detects ad breaks and / or you can edit before producing the DVD within the product [ie. you top and tail the video stream], a free trial is available from the developers]. For HD you need other solutions.

I think the elecard mpeg player will play .tps files and also convert them to an mpeg format. there may also be some free players to play .tps files but I don't know weather they will convert them.

some model use .ts or .trp (technomate) these are MPEG transport stream:
Code:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MPEG_transport_stream
.trp converts easy to .ts, .ts can be played with the VLC media player (current ver. 1.0.3)
Code:

DVD Flick can make dvd from these .ts
