Personally wouldn't touch BT with a barge-pole. Their customer service is fourth-rate. Signed up with them for broadband twice and on both instances got burned:

VoiP is much better than it was at one time, at least when it comes to voice clarity. I'm not sure how BT is using it, but my little backwoods company is utilizing VoiP to connect persons located outside the US and Canada to audio conference calls that are running on a bridge based in the United States. It has been great for our business, and our people who were having to pay international toll charges with other conference call providers are loving it.
