Default Batteries Conversion?

Hi all, i was just wondering if there is any methods of converting a battery powered gadget to run on mains instead...like some wires connected up to the gadget fed by AC->DC power supply and voltage adjusted to the gadget's requirements. would it work? the gadget is running on 2x AAA

yes, just buy a transformer and connect it to the battery terminals using a 3 volt setting

Would it harm the gadget at all? it's basically a DPSS laser pointer I'm trying to do this with, maximum output 50 milliwatts.

Also, would I need a AC to DC adapter? i have an old PC power supply unit that might work with lowest voltage output of 3.3V and current of 28A

So I'm kind of not sure because I'm not an expert at electronics.

i dont think it will be 28 Amps, that is massive, unless you live in a substation.

you can buy a dc power adapter for about 4.99 with many voltage settings.

okay i found a AC-DC adaptor with a 3V output, but says 300mA, does the 300mA power matter at all? like will it fry up my laser pointer or does that depend on the resistance and efficiency of my Laser pointer?

first of all, you must get the polarity of the adapter right, otherwise you will fry the laser thing.

the 300mW will be a maximum setting, so basically anything under that should be fine, some toys and cordless phones require more ampage, so this would be unsuitable for them, but ok for smaller gadgets.

if you are unsure about the polarity, i would definatley seek advice from a nearby tandy or maplins store, or anymone in your area who messes with electronics
