A proposal for a debate:
1) Sigma procesor/chipset is badly supported, to the point where it can't manage certain functions, certainly not with their "assistance" and before 2020... Will there ever be a significant change for the better?!? (Beta to infinity?!?) We should remember that until recently Opensat/Celrun claimed that the "twin tuner" function is coming because Sigma guaranteed it. Suddenly, it was "not possible" and Opensat denied it ever had anything to do with such promises, so that it would appear as if they haven't been selling it as a "twin tuner" receiver, as well as never having claimed that "one can watch one channel while recording another, so long as one has 2 tuners installed - in ANY combination". It was never qualified with "assuming both channels are on the same transponder", which would be rather stupid and superfluous, as one can do that with a single tuner, right now. Opensat openly told us, to top it all up with a cherry, that they were working on the "twin support" and that it is possible, only to suddenly change their tune and claim how they never claimed any such thing but that they always talked about "combo" capability only! A "see through" insult, up to a very painful level, as if they are dealing with little children [i.e. as if their customers have no brains and no memory], not to mention as if we are dealing with little children [i.e. Opensat really behaved extremely badly, like spoilt little children, in those circumstances]... 2) FW is limiting streaming and quite a bit, as apparently "the full streaming flow" collapses the Sigma processor. Sometimes one cannot stream from PC/laptop, depending on FW, OS and SW, as well as the configuration. Sometimes, even if it does work, it's freezing every so often, to the point where it is not watchable, especially with some formats and "high bitrates"! The LAN driver is laughable, from what I hear, so it is understandable why things are so "choked" at times. WLAN driver has been re-written recently and improved but as we keep hearing - still with problems... In addition, the streaming is needlessly complicated. It should really be much simpler and included/supported in the FW! 3) It is not possible to stream from AZbox HD to a PC/laptop [using VLC]. 4) Kernel is old and a newer one has Sigma support included, from what we hear. Allegedly, some are working on it... But when [and if!] is that going to happen?!? 5) DVB API is not good either and in relation to all of the above, has to be written from scratch, too. It was already modified but with all the necessary changes, it will have to be re-done! 6) OpenXCAS has to be removed completely. Yet another layer of "mediators/interceptors", making it yet more complex, needlessly complicated, slower and unstable. As some have warned, with the same version of NewCS one gets 2-3 times slower response times in AZbox HD, as opposed to DB, for instance. I hear it is being worked on but... 7) We have no complete, well made, stable and fast package, comprising of: -card reader -CS server -CS client -Emulator for all that is hacked and working with keys. If all of 1-6 happens, then allegedly we may get a whole, decent and relatively fast CCcam package [again, hacked from DMM, yes, sadly...]. Maybe even the good old GBox, even though it is not publicly supported... Otherwise we will forever be dreaming of it working in AZbox HD, as it is working in DBox2 or DB, sadly... When?!? Mind you, I think Opensat/Celrun should not only ever be reactive and hack other people's/other companies' SW - but create their own. Pay for it and reap the rewards! Then, never fear what the originators might put into the SW!!! 8) Blindscan is a pure and unadulterated embarrassment! Who needs stuff like that, to taunt and/or let down the users yet again?!? It neither functions [ergo dubbed "blinkered-scan"], nor is the "brilliant PR" at any level which leaves one confident that these guys know what they are doing... Do they not test their products and then publish them - as in "even minimally", for like maybe 10-15 minutes, to realise that something is just NOT working?!?:confused_smile:9) Enthusiast developers are pretty badly "supported"! I.e. "Opensat" is in fact dubbed as Closedsat and "Celrun" as Snailcrawl! Neither documents, nor the tools, as it could/should be and please don't get us started on the issue of drivers!!! God forbid anything is expected of Sigma!!! It's clear they are afraid to lose their licences for various formats... However, they are starting to lose their "multimedia" advantage and ultimately the game, as there are more and more considerably faster/stronger processors out now, with various licences included, for BluRay, mkv etc. One can't be sleeping on past achievements for very long, not in technology, Sigma/Celrun/Opensat!!! 10) YouTube announced that it will ban all the receivers/STBs very soon... One feature less! Moreover, neither FTP Client, nor File Manager, neither Browser nor RSS News are all that great... sadly!!! 11) Have Opensat/Celrun the ba**s to pay for a top notch development, if they are not giving away the drivers, docs and tools to the enthusiasts? In other words, if they are not leaving Sigma behind, would they fork out for the professional help necessary to move things along properly, so they can really compete with the top notch companies?!? Oh, yes: we have to see it in this millennium... ![]() What say you? |
