Hi,
Bought Belkin pre N wireless router Fd58230uk4. When I got it home i got it up in running in around 5 mins. Around a couple of days later my wireless laptop wasn't find my belkin router. I contacted my internet service provider who told me everything was running fine on their side. I then contacted my laptop service provider who told me to connect to my wireless router via ethernet cable, to laptop. He directed me to change some settings and disable my wpa code and firewall. I did and connected wireless to router again, i then renabled wpa code and firewall. Everything was running fine but 2 days later same problem. I follow as per previous solution and again everything was fine. Around three days later same problem. This time it wouldn't allow me to connect to the internet via direct ethernet connection. I then contacted my laptop support service who advised me to gain my DNS numbers and input manually. He also told me to get my NTL ip address and subnet mask and also input manually. It seems my router keeps overiding my NTL modem and reseting its ip address to the one of the router which is cutting of my internet. It tried it to input manually the details, and it still wouldn't let me gain internet access. I then contact NTL who help me setup original internet connection taking the wireless router out of the loop. My internet is now working and as the router is still plugged in it is showing as connected but obviously as it is not connected to the router, when you access it it dosen't have an intenet connection. I am at a lost and can't get any response from belkin. I've tried phoning lots with no success and I've had no response from e-mail around a week ago. No customer services at all. My laptop support provider says its a common problem they receive and advise buying netgear router. I would be extremely grateful for any advice to solve this problem! Thanks Pollitt P.s Happy New Year and all the best for 2007!!! |

We had a similar complaint reported about an overheating Netgear router here:
Improved My wireless situation See if that's of any help? Also surprised you're having trouble with Belkin - they used to have a pretty good reputation for phone support. |

Hi thanks for the response!
Fortunately I managed to get through to belkin via phone. It seems my problem arised from the intial setup. I had incorrectly setup using PPPoE type connection. I and all NTL cable connection types should use Static connection. I used the other connection type because it seem like the correct one as I had the service providers details. The PPPoE connection was the cause of the problem because it was allowing me connection through the dynamic only temporarily. As explained by belkin. Thanks again for the response as this was my first post. I hope if any one in the future experience the same problem as me they should apply the reset button on the bottom of the router for 30 seconds. Then reset factory default in the setup screen and go through the setup again selecting the dynamic connection. The router now seems to be working fine and I'm looking forward to connection via wireless. Apart from my initial setup problem the router has excellent signal strength and would recommend it as it also has the pre n connection option. |

Hey, glad to hear you got it sorted out - I had to call Belkin when I first got a wireless router and found the support pretty good.
I'd actually taken a BT router back, because they insisted on a premium rate number for support, so took it back to PC World and got it exchanged for a Belkin. ![]() Anyway, glad everything is fine, and hope your tip is useful to someone else. ![]() |

Pollitt, thanks for your help this had been bugging me for ages. But just to be clear you must answer Dynamic connection, as you say in the second part of your post

Id say if your router is still under garantee then return it and get a different one, explaning that it is over heating. they will exchange it since its covered under manufactures garantee.

I would suggest trying to connect with the Belkin Wireless Utility because that worked with my brothers computer and he never gets any problems whereas mine did when I connected using Windows Zero Configuration. My problem went away as soon as I bought a wireless card and stoped using Windows Zero Configuration but the utility that came with the card. Hope it works for you. |
