ngrab / ngrablite1.03 problems with tm500

help, i am pulling my hair out with this, i have a technomate tm500,
toshiba l300 laptop running vista home premium, belkin router on a cable modem providing a wired network between laptop and tm500, i have installed both ngrab and ngrab lite 1.03 on my laptop and configured ip's and port settings following clear instructions, and my problem is this......

on setting a recording through timer on tm500 ngrablite 1.03 icon turns from grey to green and looking at it i can see initial recording startup and info pour into on screen display for ngrab, but after a split second the info disappears from ngrab display and tm500 constantly flashes, "connecting with ngrab server" the ngrab says its connected but all i see in recordings file is 4 bytes size and never any more could someone please help if it is a setting in my computer or box thats at fault, regards ardvaark ,
