Default Footie Chat removed until further notice

Just to let everyone know that the "footie chat" board has been removed until further notice.

The staff here still have a massive job completing the merger of Satmoz into TW, but we are still having to monitor the footie section.

What some see as banter, I see as unnecessary friction that is damaging to the community of TW, so it is better to keep the football rivalry off the boards for the time being.

It may be the case that it is reinstated some time in the future, but for the time being I do not think it is adding anything to the site, and taking up staff time that is needed elsewhere.

do appreciate your concern.. if we were in your local i could understand your case about friction... but its not , we are not kicking each other literally, only verbally..as for taking up staff time, i have just been on s/view section, which is why i am here anyway, and just wasted a good few minutes reading utter nonsense from some people.. ok some new but some have been here for months and still ask time wasting questions.. which we all read or answer.... me, wasp, khan, macabre, harryb, etc, just talk/slag amongst ourselves... so long as we dont start using foul and abusive language, i dont see a problem... but its not my choice...... all the best, scouse, aka..boomer...

The trouble is, invariably we do get reported posts from the threads when they do go beyond reasonable boundaries.

As we're supposed to helping two communities merge together, a section which actively results in abusive posts between members just seems very unwelcome at this stage.

As before, we'll likely see it returned at some point in the future, but for the time being it's best to put a lid on fractiousness now - so we can get on with being a community, as opposed to some people trying to find different ways to wind up other members.

I agree with boomer39. Since i have been using the footy section there have been times were i could easily have hit the "report button" etc but i never have and reply in banter its all fun end of day both parties agree to it.

But obviously some one keeps bringing the mods in to it and who ever that person is may be there should just not post or read in the footy sections end of the day its there choice as there in control of their mouse!

As for swearing etc i totally agree with mods regarding this and should instantly get infractions etc. but on a whole its a fun thread and i think ive made friends from both sides of the party =)

Although its a tech forum i come on this site from morning till night various times threw the day looking for replys and discussions regarding the footy. I guess will just have to sit tite and see if it returns sooner rather then later cheerz !

It's not a case of anyone being a tell tale - either the behaviour is acceptable or not.

I've just had someone PM me claiming there were racist remarks in some of those threads - are we to presume this is therefore acceptable so long as it's not reported to the mods? Of course it isn't.

Whether the claim is true or not it does underline that things have - repeatedly - gotten out of hand in the football section, so it's best left off the boards for the time being to prevent issues developing further.

hi brian,as boomer and harry say,its a place where we can all go to have a bit of banter over our teams, good and bad.we all exchange views, some we agree with, some we dont.i dont see it doing tw any harm, more of a advertisment for potential new members.

It is harmful when members claim to be racially abused, and feel the need to report abusive posts.

This is not a good advertisement for all the new members that have just moved here from Satmoz, and other potential new members.

Moderators continually posted warnings, as did Brian, the big boss, but all of them went unheeded.

Hopefully it will be returned shortly, as soon as the merger is completed, and hopefully members will be more careful regarding their posts, banter is fine, but racism and personal abuse is not.

Well i for one, have got an infraction [again], i used abusive language, so deserved it. I have not seen any racist stuff, unless aimed at stockport, or belfast lol. The football banter is a thing that looks so bad to the neutral, but the parties involved love it, even though they pretend to be so hurt and offended by an opposing post. Yet you still get some idiots hitting the report button, and wasteing mods time and getting them totally cheesed off.I miss the banter with the liverpool fans, as it passed a couple of hours now and then, and give us all a laugh. I think the footie should be back, and ok, i'll serve my time and come back a new, changed pleasent person.
