For 2 it can have a metal case, and not need to be earthed, look up DOUBLE INSULATED.

with reagrds to the fuselink. electricians might call them fuselinks. distribution engineers would either call them a fuse or a link.
link is short for redlink. redlinks are only used where a cutout enters on the ground level and is fused there. a redlink is then put in the flat above.

you can see the mark for class two/double insulated on the vbox, it looks like a black square with another square around it, class three is a 'III' with a triangle around it

if a short occoured between the neutral and a different phase in that joint box then 415V has traveled up that single phase supply!

"Double insulated or class 2 electrical appliances are products that have been designed in a way so as not to require a safety connection to electrical earth (These products must NOT have a safety connection to Earth).
These products are required to prevent any failure from resulting in dangerous voltage levels becoming exposed causing a shock etc. This must be done without the aid of an earthed metal casing. Ways of achieving this include double layers of insulating material or reinforced insulation protecting any live parts of the fitting. There are also strict requirements relating to the maximum insulation resistance and leakage to any functional earth or signal connections of such appliances. Products of this type are required to be labelled "Class II", "double insulated" or bear the double insulation symbol (the symbol displayed above)" AND yet people are getting shocks from these boxes. Can you tell me why that is-this makes me think there is something wrong with the insulation of these boxes. As Stevie did say these boxes are made in countries where quality controls can be somewhat lacking. |

well then G77 does that not mean that one of these boxes can cause the problems Mainblazer has experienced? Going through the thread one of the supermods here says that is not possible yet now you admit by your response that yes these boxes may not be well insulated....therefore can cause all manner of electrical disruption admittedly there are possibly a combination of factors going on here but would they have come into effect had there not been a faulty box at the source here? |

no, that box has not caused that cable to blow.
you dont know what your talking about if you cant understand why people get 'shocks' off these boxes and yet it with what you have just copied and pasted explains exactly the reason!

?????I copied the thing about double insulation to reitterate a point-THAT PEOPLE ARE GETTING SHOCKS FROM THESE BOXES and they WOULDN'T if insulated properly.Yet you can't see that.If the boxes are faulty then it can cause all manor of electrical disruption.May I ask what your qualifications are for you to be in a position to say what you say.You are clearly not an electrician.Do you have even have 17th edition at least. Doesn't the outer core of the VM cable feed ground the metal case?
I only ask as I have placed a small piece of copper wire going from the conductive metal frame of the box and wrapped it around the cable feed plug, it's totally stopped the little shocks coming off the box... And my VM box seems much better as it doesn't freeze and lock up any more. |
