Default usb to ethernet

Hi all im trying 2 fix a acer 5100 ethernet port as i f***ed it when i fell over it and pulled the cable out now its not working so i got a usb to ethernet, BUT CAN I HELL GET IT 2 WORK can any1 tell me how 2 set it up ???

i will just get this 1 as mine was only £5 and it asks me 2 do loads of stuff... thanks for the help ....

not familiar with the acer 5100.......wouldnt you be better off buying a wireless dongle ? then you could connect to your wireless router......if you have one.

First as a test you could try streaming a movie when the laptop is right near the wireless router - if this works then you know the problem is likely the wireless link being too weak at longer distances.

If it's still jerky then try connecting your laptop to the router using a wire and try streaming a movie - if this works it would indicate the problem lies with the wireless connection (rather than one of the computers being too slow to stream fast enough in the first place, eg old hard disks and slow processors)

Once you know the source of the bad performance you can start looking at bigger antennas, better wireless routers, or just relocating the one you have etc...
