Default Dreambox bandwidth

How much bandwidth would the main dreambox use in a month, say with 6 networked together over the net.

How longs a piece of string?

It all depends on what channels your watching, if its encrypted or not, how long its switched on for, how many cards you have access to.

Theres too many variables to give an answer thats anywhere near acurate

the best i can do for you is.....

my router monitors bandwidth in real time, it does not monitor it over a period of time.... combined rx and tx is 3kbps. i would estimate that this is only in use about half the time..... so lets say 1.5kbps.

times it by 60 to get minutes = 90kb
times it by another 60 to get hours = 5400kb
times it by 24 to get in per day = 486000kb
times it by 7 to get per week = 3402000kb
times it by 4.3 to get per month = 14628600kb......

now someone else can check my math here but i think to get it in mb we divide by 1024?....

= 14286mb (rounded up)
and divide by 1024 again to get gig?

= 14gb (rounded up again)

edit: ahh, am i not missing the bits in a byte calc?

thats a lot for one box and if you had 5-6 thats why too much bandwidth, I wonder how public servers go unnoticed with all that bandwidth.

well divide it by 8 and you have bytes, so thats 1.75 gigabytes in a month.

in a colocation centre in manchester, paying the basic package your allowed 50gb a month, so presuming that you have 25 clients continually using hits all day....

i wonder what a site like techwatch uses in a month?
