Default Complete novice here - advice needed as to what I need

Hi - I have just done a search or Eurovox after being briefed by a friend and ended up at this site - hopefully someone can fill me in on what this is all about.
If I ask questions that shouldn't be public knowledge, a PM would be appreciated.

I am in the UK and currently have Freeview, but my understandin is that with one of these boxes I could receive all freeview channels plus Pay Per View and channels such as Sky Sports etc. Not sure if that questions allowed so please moderate if not.

Next - equipment. I currently have Telewest / Blueyonder. Our cable TV feed is downstairs and my Broadband feed / modem is upstairs. Do I need to split one of these to connect up to a Eurovox box or similar? If so, which one?

Also, can my cable company pick up what I am doing? ie can they trace my feed ?

Next - there are so many boxes on Ebay - which ones are the best to go for? I don't want one that is going to be obsolute in the near future so want one that I can update really easily.

Any other equipment that i need? Splitters? Cables?

I might be flamed for asking these questions, but would appreciate any help.
Thanks

Personally, I would go for a d-box 2 or dreambox c, they are better supported than the eurovox. You could split either feed, or even replace the existing 2 way with a 3 way splitter and cable back to the wall box. You will have to watch the signal level, it can drop if split too many times.

I don't actually use my TV feed so presumably I don't need a splitter? Can I just plug in the existing cable?

So long as it's actually connected to the cable feed you can.

Thanks for the advice so far - I've bought a Sagem dbox 2 with Sportster software on. Next question - which type of F connector do I need - male or female?
