If you're pointing the domain at a new hosting account, you'll need to wait for the DNS to fully propagate - typically around 24 hours, though sometimes longer (technically, up to 48 hours).

If you're able to, then before a site move, set the TTL on the server to something around 600 - that means it tells the web to update it's DNS record of the site every 10 minutes - that way, when you do change the nameservers at the domain registrar, the change should occur within 10 minutes, and help prevent downtime.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Brian,

Can't change the TTL on the server as its a shared server so as you know you are limited to what you can do on shared....oposed to private as when i wanted to send 500.000 emails on a shared server but the limit I could actually send was something like 500...if i pay the extra then i would have access to unlimited emails and the TTL.

Thanks though........looking into setting up my own server would thhis enable me to do this ?

HP MediaSmart Server - EX490 - 2 GB RAM - 2.2 GHz - 1 TB HDD

but im going into unknown territory here so imay leave it to the experts.

edit* just found the dns server my original site was pointing to
ns1.siteground163.com
ns2.siteground163.com

had to change to the new hosting dns server
ns1.siteground267.com
ns2.siteground267.com

cheers mate

It depends how busy you expect the site to be as to what you need for hosting - for most websites, a shared hosting account is enough - for busier or more demanding sites, a reseller account is usually a good bet.

I run a couple of servers, and TW is on one with a few other sites, simply because TW would be too much for most reseller accounts.

I don't buy the servers, though - if I did, I would then need to colocate them to a datacenter, or else host from home and tempt ISP TOS. And be a complete pain.

If you don't have a big contract for hosting, then it may be worth going with a company such as Clook.co.uk - they offer shared, reseller, and dedicated servers, so if you needed to upgrade, they could move you easily - they are very good on the technical support.

Buying your own server, though - you'd need to be pretty good at system administration - personally I wouldn't go that route, because dedicated hosting companies can offer all the reliability, tech support, and security, that you'll need - for most normal instances.

not easy though to market your website with the seo changing all the time (search engine optimisation)

pick a domain that is different thats a start, i just got these printed..... double sided but with eurovox on one side lol no good now...but il still post them but only advertise modems etc i sold a few for £60

and another thing u need a decent merchant account @the mo i use google checkout which is all good and paypal...though google checkout allow you to sell modified modems but not r4 cards dont know why
