Talking in need of education

lets say for educational purposes if you had a hacked modem and no package with the cable company would it be possible to use a internet phone without the the cable company knowing ??

I would say yes. Your problem would be accessing the cableco's e-mail or webspace if you still had any.

I would think it could be possible, at least until someboy caught on. Anything with a point of origin and a point of termination can eventually be identified. On that day, the fun would be over.

How is an internet phone any more identifiable than normal internet traffic?

And what type of internet phone we are talking about, is that simply something like skype or is it a hardware phone that connects to a router.

Either way, I'm still struggling to see how the traffic would be different to any normal internet packets, though I'm not expert. Give me a little insight please

Well I suppose they could detect traffic on the standard VOIP ports, but it would take some effort on the ISP's part - there are much easier ways to catch you out.
