Ello! I was basically just wondering about Mac programs that I would need if I'm to succeed within the graphics design world!
I heard that these new Macs don't run Photoshop etc properly? Is that true? Which other programs would I need e.g. Flash etc? Would they run fine? Can I play my old PC games on the Mac? Is there anything else I need to know before I make the switch? THANK YOU PEOPLE!! |

Your asking a loaded question here.
What is is exactly you want to acheive? But to answer as best i can just now. Quote:
Design/Creative, Production,Studio,Animator are some fields. Photoshop has some problems depending on the version with Intel mac's. Although I think that this is fixed now. Just make sure you buy the right software for the mac you run it on. Quote:
Flash and shockwave run under the safari browser as standard. So browsing is not a problem Yes by using an emulator. If you are talking about using games that require a load of power (farcry/warcraft) you will not be able to play them. Quote:
Remember that many application like photoshop/quark/indesign all come with PC versions. hope this helps a little

Thank you. Let me make myself more clear sorry.
I've basically just graduated in Multimedia, but with my university being the load of rubbish that it was they never taught us how to use Apple Macs! Now i'm looking at getting my first job in Graphics design and I keep getting told that I need to know how to use Macs since that is the industry standard. I specialise in Photoshop at the moment, but i'm decent with Flash, programming and web design as well. Programs such as Photoshop, Flash and Dreamweaver are essential to me, so I need to know the work fine. I know Photoshop CS3 will work becuase its been updated for the Macs but is that the case with the other Macromedia products as well? I just wanted some idea of what other programs I would need in case my University neglected to teach me that as well... lol. Sound like i'm bad at what I do, but i'm not that bad, its just that I think my university cut a few corners and i'm upset about it now that i'm struggling to find a job! |

Photoshop is pretty much the same on whatever platform it is run on. It is not too different.
check out this it may help you Hack Attack: A guide for switching to a Mac - Lifehacker I would say that the above product you mentioned are the main ones although many people still use Quark instaed of the new indesign product. |

Sadly, Adobe have dropped fireworks, well Macromedia Fireworks. You can currently not get it.
You might want to try GimpShop, It is the open source version of photoshop for mac. You will need your X11 though (On the discs that come with the mac)

Yes me too plus ive go office on too...everything works fine. If you want to go into the graphic design field go with a mac and the CS3 range. You might want to put Quark on there too...
