Default Dbox freezing and making high pitched screecing

Hi I have a sagem dbox2 with 1 chip. I have tried anumber of images but keep getting freezing and high pitched screeching.
Someone has suggested to disconnect the modem and check the memmemory modules are in correctly. Had a look last night but can't see how to disconnect the modem any ideas how this is done. Also are the memmory modules the same as in a pc.

Any help, assistance or other ideas appreciated.

The modem is a case of removing a couple of screws and the connector cable, it's real easy.

Try running with the lid off for a while in case heat is a problem
