Default Help PLEEEASE!!!

Im a complete novice and purchased a Eurovox EX 5100 PVR a few months ago. It already had firmware installed on it so Ive never had to connect it to my pc. All was well until 2 nights ago when it kept switching off then switching back on every few seconds. I unplugged it, left it a while then switched it on again. I still had the same problem but lasted a few minutes each time instead of seconds. The next morning I got up and the tv screen was blank with no picture or sound on. Also on the box the display read PEAA. Can anyone help or put me in the right direction please?

Having had a search through the forums (which you should have done, you'll find out loads of stuff) it sounds like your box may be a clone.

Either that or you have the wrong firmware on it.

Whatever it is I wouldn't worry, as within a month or so your box will be useless thanks to the advent of Nagra 3. Have a search and you'll find out all about it.

Sorry to give you bad news but the end is nigh.

Depends if you have a HD Eurovox I'd imagine.

Without it wanting to sound like a put-down, the best thing you could do is to save your money and either subscribe to Virgin Media or to Sky Digital.

Either way, you won't get free TV, as all the non-subscribed boxes are gradually going off due to a new type of encryption called Nagra 3 (if you search through here for Nagra 3 you will find all the information you need, although I promise you, you're not going to like it).

Unfortunately for you, this is one bandwagon that is about to hit a brick wall. Sorry.

Every last one of them I'm afraid. Virgin or Sky is the only way to get premium TV now and they both need a subscription to receive them.

The only other option is freeview, but none of the current cable boxes will get this either. All they will get will be the five terrestrial channels: BBC1, BBC2, ITV1, Channel 4 and FIVE.

As far as the future, no-one can tell, but Nagra 3 has been implemented world wide and has been in use for a long time and so far there have been no cracks, keys, codes, overwrites, hacks or any other way round it. The only consolation is that, "anything one man makes, another man can take apart", so all we need to do is wait for the "other man" to do his thing, then we can start again.

But don't look for this to happen anytime soon (irrespective of any rumours you may hear to the contrary). If and when Nagra 3 is cracked I very much doubt any of the boxes on the market today will be able to be used, so it's a doorstop all the way from here on out.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the last thing you should do is go out and buy another cable box expecting it to be the answer to your prayers, as it just ain't gonna happen.

Thanks for the reply fellas. I had heard something about the boxes being switched off and now know its true. At least the info has saved me going out and getting another box. It was good while it lasted.
