virgin subs

i know this has been asked quite recently and iv read through the whole thread but i wanted to start a new one as the old one started to turn more into argument ang go off topic

im intresteed in sharing my sub with my sis and obviously using the multiroom box at her place and sharing the sub.

But from what i have read im getting contrasting remarks we live in the same area aprox 1.5 miles away in the sme net id but on a diferent UBR

im on 4 and shes on 7 for my particular area. This is obviously where it becomes a little more risky business, and also where the other topic slipped away.

Basically i know as with anything like this there is a risk. But what i want to know is do the boxes actually when they talk back show the ubr the stb is active on or just show as active and also is this something that they are really going to delve into unless someone actually tells them something is wrong (ie whats happening)

It would be interesting if there are any ppl on the board that have been or engineers with said company.

I've seen numerous things being said from different sources some say they only show as being online others say the show as being online at a certain ubr

I would think it would be okay 2 do that as long as its the same net ID, I know that the boxes talkback, But dont know if they will tell them if your in a different ubr, as i think thats from modems never know it 2 be used on cable boxes.

Remember that the talkback mechanism on VM stb's is via a standard cable modem (built into the box) so the complete route is available to VM for talkback messages which will include the actual UBR line (not just the UBR, but its actual line). If the 2nd box does not appear on the same line (depending on area, you share a line with 10-50 near neighbours) then there is a discrepency.

Whether VM look for or bother about this discrepency is unknown. The fact is, they could if they felt so inclined to do so !

yeah i thought as much but with so many ppl speculating without actually knowing a thing about cable it makes everything a lot more confusing

i was going to give it a go anyway regardless and see if they actually bothered as i would assume it would work similar to sly ie you get a letter then a engineer and charged double subs
was all set with my install date tomorrow and then sly offered me full hd sub for £29 (half price for 12months)

so in affect vir*in were charging me £58 for everything tv wise (XL TV 2 V+HD boxes Sports & movies + multiroom) which obviously was open to weather id get away with it or not and with sly
my sis doesnt have a hd tv so will still get the hd box just no hd pack sub for £24.25 & mine £29.25 works out cheaper at £53.50 added together and all being totally legit

not bad me thinks!!

firstly, virgin dont care where u put your box as long as ur paying. i once rang up a few years ago to ask if i could use my box at my friends house insted of mine, as i was staying their indefinatly. they advised me it might not work, but if it did, as long as its being paid for, they werent that bothered.

secondly, how did you get sky to offer you that? i have heard of this offer before, but when i try to get it, they told me they dont know what i'm talking about... what exactly do you get for your money?

for my money with sky i get the whole tv excluding espn which is extra but not worth taking until there is some decent football on it but can be added 1 month at a time but apart from that i get everything sports movies et al with a free hd box and the hd pack also if i didnt want the hd pack i would have still got the hd box and it would have been £24.25 for 12 months

there is now another offer now which the cs agent told me about when they called to try and get me to change my mind about going with virgin he gave me a link which gives you the code when u fill in your name etc i wont post the link but if you want it feel free to pm me and ill send it you that way

so what i might end up doing is doing sky for 12 months and if nothing similar is available at the end of the 12 month period do what i first posted with virgin

sky also offered me free bband as well but i dont have a phone line and personaly would go with o2 if i did but as it stands i am happy with virgin bband but recently it seems they are throttling way to much throughout they day

I don't think they do bother. My box spent the best part of 2 years up at my ex's place who was on a different UBR. Never heard anything from them. As long as they get their subs I don't think they care.
