If you all search the site for references to Nagra 3 (there will be thousands) then you will gain the knowledge you seek.

In a nutshell, all the third party cable boxes will very shortly (with maybe a few odd exceptions) be totally useless. Nagra 3 is a new encryption system that Virgin Media are implementing to secure the signal on the TV channels we used to be able to receive.

Imagine you have had the bank card and PIN for someone who's account you have been dipping into and stealing from. Well in effect, the PIN has been changed so all the free stuff has been taken away. That's Nagra 3.

Your box is now either a very big, digtal clock, a receiver to watch BBC1, BBC2, ITV1, Channel 4 and FIVE, plus a few odd +1 channels, or its a funky black doorstop. Take your pick.

There is no point mothballing your box hoping for a fix to work in it later down the line, all the technology will have to be different when, or more likely, if, someone cracks Nagra 3, but don't hold your breath.
