Default URGENT: adding 2 extension for multi-room

Hi all,

need urgent advice on this as Sky are installing HD + multi-room this bank holiday monday.

My only phone master socket is in the kitchen. I need to have feeds to 2 other rooms.
Whats the best way to do it? I'm not on about whether to trail inside or outside, its more of a:
1. Do I split and take 2 feeds off the master, or
2. make a slave off the master into one room, then slave from that into the othe room? (not that i really know the diff between master and slave telephony-wise)

or what?

All advice very welcome, thanks.

The easiest would probably be to take one cable to ext.1 then onto ext.2, but this depends on the geography of your house. If the master is in the middle, run one cable in each direction - if it's at one end, run one cable.

Master sockets have components in to make the phones ring and for BT to do line tests. Secondary sockets don't.

Thank Ray, so i'm thinking to wire in the 2 extra cables into the master socket in the kitchen.
I'll then route both outside the house; one will run to the back and re-enter with the coax for the rear extension, the other will route to the front of the house and re-enter with the coax for the multi-room.
I'll then wall mount a slave socket for each.

That sound about right?

On paper, yes.

However, you should ensure you use cable designed for outdoor use, or run it in conduit of some kind. If you don't you might find you have to replace it fairly regularly.

Using outdoor grade cat5e given to me by alarm installation engineer. Its actually thinner than standard cat5e, nearer the thickness of telephone cable. They use it all the time for connecting alarms to phone lines.
