hello all,
With those new models requiring LAN internet connection, I am sure a few people are facing the same problem as me and that is: My router is far from my room and my DM500 is in my room requiring LAN connection My laptop receives internet via its built in wifi from that router. the LAN port is thus not being used. can i distribute the internet that my laptop is receiving and 'output' it via the lan port to my DM or KVA780? is this possible? I have tried doing it but with not much success. Vista is so different and a pain when it comes to set up home network etc... Presumably i need a cross over RJ45 lead. i have both types anyway. I am aware that there is a gadget on fleebay that you can use to bridge internet. i believe you have to use them in pairs. (see item 290441037791 ) anyway, using my laptop, if at all possible is a cheaper solution. Any idea? cheers

hi,
yes i have. but given that my laptop is on most of the time, i could use it, if possible to bridge and save a few quid on those ethernet plugs. let's see if somebody here has done this before....

Ive a secondary ISR(router) that Ive bridged. It wasnt much cheaper than a wireless bridge, but I can use all four ports(for other receivers) and use it for VOIP
Ill pull up a tut later(im using a wrt54g as my second ISR)

found it
digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/f20/how-bridge-two-wireless-routers-108762/ if you've got more than one dreambox on the network, its advisable to change the MAC address of it. Im not sure why packet tracer never picked up on this...

well on eBay, simply search for WRT54G and modify with DDWRT

Oh, and dont use VM/Sky broadband. We're moving to Orange+BT(at £22.74/month) and we get £70 cashback lol
VM broadband+phone for £19! Though if you were never on VM broaband in the first place, then thats a plus(as you could go to Orange+Primus saver, and pay £19 with £70 cashback lol)

I have a wifi bridge with the kv and I connector, the wi fi bridge is about £30 or maybe a bit more the wi bridge goes into the back of the kv, it comes complete with an ethernet connection, that goes into the back of the i connector, it works well wth the 750 i don't know how it works with the 780 that does not need an I connector it is proably something similar
