Hello, I'm wondering if anyone can help me, i'm new to the site and my tech knowledge very limited (i.e none). I recently had a chipped virgin box which has now gone off, but, somebody on holiday has mentioned a dreambox that can recieve all channels in HD. What do I need to set up a Dreambox system i.e satallite dish, internet connection, ect, and where is the best place to purchase these items. Also what do I need to do once I recieve them, as I said very little tech knowledge. It would be nice if I could be up and running before the end of the World Cup, any advice would be appriciated.
Thanks in advance! |

You probably want to read up on card sharing, we cant go into it too deeply on this forum, there is enough on it to give you a basic idea if you do a search, there are card sharing forums if you google for more technical info.

you need a Dish thats for definite i can assure you that now The bigger the dish the more the sats u can pick up According to the UK law as far as I am concerned is that anything bigger then 1.2 M you will require permission from the council. I would say 1M dish Disec q or a 1M dish with multiple LNB's will do the job just fine if you looking to get foreign channels ... i.e sly italia and so on IF you just want the Sky uk then you a stand sky dish will do the job just fine. The rest u will need to google it as I cant mention anything more regarding this topic. you buy the dish from Fleebay as they would be the cheapest place to get one from. if you want a 1M motorised dish then u can pick one up for around 115 quid Just to add the method your going for will require a 24/7 Active internet connection!!!! |

The dreamboxes can be got with sat, cable or terrestrial tuners, i think a sat version is the best option, if you get a motorised dish you have a lot more satellites to choose from not just the obvious one, if a network of friends for instance are connected together all sharing different cards you can get loads of sports and film channels etc, and football that you cant get on uk tv.

Of course, if you're wanting something as cheap as possible, then you can make do with a:
DM 500S and a sky mini dish Should cost you under £100, though at that price you wont be getting HD If you have NO tech knowledge, then your best off getting a KV A780/SV 6/SV HD first(as you can learn how to mess about with routers etc...) Once you've got that out of the way, then you can concentrate on linux(dreambox), but I can tell you this for sure. Going to a linux receiver from a closed source box(KV A780 etc...) is quite the learning curve. Obviously if you move from linux to closed source, then theres no learning curve
