If you follow the tutorial to the letter, you shouldn't have that problem

Is your null cable showing up in device manager? Easy way to get to it. Click Start>Run and copy and paste: devmgmt.msc Should get you there as soon as you press enter. On a side note, be sure to upgrade XP to Windows 8 when it comes out later this year. It's more resource efficient than Windows 7 so should be good for XP machines (as long as you have the hard drive space)

RS232/ straight should be fine. I don't think I've heard of a null modem "reverse" cable. As long as you have a null modem cable and not an ordinary RS232 or a console lead, youll be fine

Hi waqs, i was asking about the null cable because in maplins there is one for straight data/firmware or reverse which means send and receive,so the box does not send any info back? CHEERS AGAIN

When you do go in to device management, could you have a look see if you have any question marks. Could you also look under ports (COM & LPT), if you don't have any question marks. The clock rate of the serial link may need changing, or it might not need to, so that's something to check. Try to see if you can change the details to the following: bits per second 115200 data bits 8 parity None stop bits 1 You should be able to do this by right clicking your COM port and clicking on properties If this doesn't work, then you may have been mis-sold a cable by Maplins and this should work: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1M-Meter-S...ht_1764wt_1089 (Remember Topcashback/Nectar points )

A Null Modem cable is the cross over type as opposed to a serial (straight) cable, you used to connect a modem between two computers when transfering data with a straight cable thats why the crossover one is called a null modem.
The link waq posted is the right type, you can connect your box to your friends one and update. |
