Default Satellite Finder Help!

Hi guys, bought a satellite finder today to try and setup my openmedia 500cs. . Can't get ber to go any lower than 552 :-o and I don't really get the instructions that came with the finder :-( the finder is a konig satellite finder and as soon as I plug in the lnb and wire to my stb the fiber beeps. Does that mean my dish is in the correct place ?

What size dish do you have and what satellite are you trying to align it to?

If it was installed by Sky it is probably a mini dish, 43cm, and pointing at Astra 2, 28.2E.
When was the last time it was working?
Have you moved the dish at all?
Check the cables, at both ends, if possible, to see if it is correctly attached to the LNB and receiver.
If the dish hasn't been used for 2 years then the cable could have become dameaged, or the LNB failed, or the dish could have moved, which means you wont get a signal.
Try tuning your receiver to a FTA, Free to Air, channel on Astra 2:
Code:
http://www.lyngsat.com/28east.html
Then see if you get a picture.

If it doesn't try checking your receiver on another dish, a friends, or families, Sky dish, if it's working then you know where the problem lies, which means checking that the dish is aligned correctly then checking the cable and finally the LNB.

Thanks again for your reply.

Yes that's the satellite I'm trying to get a signal from. When I try a transponder scan my box finds nothing. I also just recently purchased a new lnb for the dish. The only think I could think that the problem was is the satellite signal as ber on my box is around 552 and I have seen that is ment to be as near as zero as you can get. To solve that I have tryed twisting lnb etc as I have also seen that should help lower the ber.

Hope you can help

First check your receiver on another dish, that way you can tune in FTA channels, like BBC 1, and then check the dish alignment and LNB.
Have you checked the cable for signs of water damage or breaks?
