Talking EX6000SD....any good?

Hi everyone,

For last 3 years I have had a eurovox max v, which has been brill (apart from the awful remote control wearing out)....but due to a overzealous 5 year old daughter who thought be a good idea to spray "pledge" into the vents to clean it, it is now sadly not with us.....

so I decided to get a new box and not keeping "up to date" with all the new models out there was really surprised at the choice. like to go for the "HD, PVR, Washes the car for you" type, but cash is tight so in a nutshell I am looking for a basic model to tide us over....

So i found this one, EX6000SD, but is it any good? I guess its a older model as I have found it online for £39.99 new....or is there a better one out there for the sub £50 price? is eurovox still the better brand?

Thanks in advance!

the reason it is so cheap is beacuse it will not work for long due to the new encryption N3.

Eurovox have started moving to the sat side and will no longer focus with the cable side as far as what am aware off anyway.

With the new methods the Eurovox will no longer work with Cable... (n3)

No, you wont get a SV 6 at £60! Youd be best off getting a KV A780, as Starview support isnt historically the best. Kryptview's support however is. The A750 has been out for quite some time. They supported it with a nagra 2 fix(when it happened in Ireland), and they also supported it by enabling users to add an iconnector to it, though not economical unless you already own the box. Starview seem to only "support" their current year boxes with a firmware thats released maybe once a year

They are in fact kicking themself in the teeth by doing this, Id say

ok...I will read up on the KV A780...I did read that the re-flshing of the firmware is a pain? I would have thought it would be the same as the Eurovox etc...

Its soo easy to reflash. And secondly, I believe the box can actually download sw updates from the server which isnt too bad(the kv that is)
The only reason that it annoyed me was because before I could flash my dreambox(not recommended for beginners) from my netbook.

With the KV/SV etc..., you would have to physically take the plug, scarts, ethernet wire and the coaxial wire off
Then take it to a PC.
Then get your RS232 cable out
Then flash
Then connect back up to the TV. All this takes 10 mins or so. With my dreambox, I did it all in less than a minute

If KV made this box a linux one, whilst also allowing people to download firmware the old fashioned way, then flashing would be a doddle(not for beginners though!)
OR
they could have simply added a USB port, and called it a PVR, so that you could flash that way

All in all, it is like flashing a Eurovox, but I am miffed at them for not including a USB port over an RS232 port, if they didnt want to make the receiver a linux one
