Someone else might add more on the latest model of stb's but this is a rough guide.

Stb

1. Patched boxes - you load the software onto the stb to clear whats open.
2. STB with cams - you use additional hardware for programming cards/cams and then load/insert into your STB to clear whats open.
3. Dreambox - You can watch the same as the above but lots more with CS'ing.

Cams

This area can change but we have two excellent cams on the market with the T-Rex (Dragon team) and Diablo plus the legendary "Dragon" cam that still does a very good job. You will need to look into these to see what is best for you.

Dish size for motorised

Depending on your neighbourhood and location, dish size can not only be permitted by cost but how it looks. Therefore, most people stay within or only slightly go over the allowed dish size of 90cm. The norm is 90-120cm depends on where it is plonked and how it may effect sourounding residents.

Non-Motorised

You can run a smaller dish say, 80cm and go for 13 & 19 degrees east FIXED, using a twin lnb carrier. But packages open up on other sats that a 90-1.2m dish and a motorised can get.

Lnb

Look into what is HOT! At the time of purchase that may aid in maximizing your signal strength.

If getting a TM receiver, get the "super" option, they blind scan faster. In my area most people are going for 80cm to 1m motorized these days. I believe Premiere has UK soccer rights, that is currently available on the T-Rex cam but not on a patched TM receiver.
