hi i've stupidly opened a video someone sent me on facebook which was obviously infected with a virus, pages on my laptop kept popping up telling me a file had been stopped containing a rogue scanner when i press ok another screen opens with i load of anti virus sites to download when i cancel this it just keeps popping up every 30 seconds.i decided to leave my laptop off for a couple of days now when i turn it on it takes forever to boot up the rouge scanner page keeps popping up another page keeps opening up scanning my laptop and pages keep opening up trying to direct me to anti virus sites.i've tried to system restore but it wont allow me to do that just keeps saying unable to restore to that date and to choose another date but whatever date i try its always unable to restore. any ideas of the best way to sort this problem out. cheers

Sounds similar to something my daughter had on her laptop. It may be a rootkit virus called "tidserv", among other things. Took me days to get rid of it with help from this site Bleeping Computer - Computer Help and Discussion

Have you got a full back up of everything on your laptop?
Have you tried booting into safe mode, pressing F8 on boot up and selecting safe mode? What Operating System do you have? Do you have a windows disk or a partition containing windows? |

take out the drive.. plug it externally into your desktop or a 2nd laptop and then back up all data. After that either use the recovery cds which were provided to you to get it back to the factory settings. or download the Windows OS cd and then boot from CD/DVD and format the machine mate and reinstall the OS |
