Exclamation My Hp laptop no longer recognises internal dvd drive in my computer,

today i went to try and burn a cd in nero and it was saying my cd drive could not be detected.

so i went to my computer and it wasnt even showing up there.

i can put a cd in the drive and it will read it and i can eject it fine, but the drive isnt showing up in my computer.

not sure if the connections have come loose inside.
or something has disabled it somehow.

what would be the best thing to do right now.

thanks

it probably is to do with your lower and higher filters in the registry

first make a system restore point
you can also back up the registry key (explained later)

press the Start button and in the search box type regedit/run regedit and browse to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/system/CurrentControlSet/control/class/{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

you can back up this key by right clicking on the {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} folder and choosing export, name it and save it to a place of your choice and it will be saved as a registry key file which if you double click it, it will restore that key.

if there is a lower and higher filters in this folder then right click on them and delete them

close the registry editor and restart your computer and hopefully all should be OK

Default Re: My Hp laptop no longer recognises internal dvd drive in my computer,

so happy just fixed it by doing this

i found from the internet

If this is an internal CD drive - and not a USB drive, try this:

Fix for missing DVD/CD drives.

Copy the code below

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]
"UpperFilters"=-
"LowerFilters"=-

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Cdr4_2K]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Cdralw2k]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Cdudf]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\UdfReadr]

Open Notepad and paste it in. Save the result in a suitable location as drives.reg - making sure that the default .txt extension doesn't appear in the file name (Save as type = All Files).
Double-click on the saved .reg file to merge the contents.
Restart computer

thanks

ok my laptop no longer recognises it now completely, not in my computer and not even in the bios.

however you can still eject the drive and it has power.

i have taken out the dvd drive to see if anything was loose like screws or the connection but there wasnt so clean any dust etc and put back.

but still doesnt detect it.

im thinking about getting a replacement dvd drive that supports dl and not sure which ones are compatible. my laptop is hp g6093ea and this dvd drive i found on ebay supports dl and has hp on it not sure whether my computer will support it.

any help thanks

Am no laptop expert and never dismantled one before and have always worked with the basics with the laptop hardware side.. I.e ram and hard drive.

However I assume if the brand and model is the exact same model as your one then it should be perfectly fine.

Also the connectors are matching etc.

But am sure a laptop expert would be able to shed some light on this.

Don't open it or you will void your warranty try getting a external dvd drive and see if that helps or contact the manufacturer of the pc and tell them what's going on and they will guide you or if you lap top is a hp brand touch F9 and do a diagnostic and see if the diagnostics can find the problem.

Hi,

I just followed 'ant16151189's suggested fix and get the following message.
"Cannot import C:........drives.reg:The specified file is not a registry script. You can only import binary registry files from within the registry editor."

What am I doing wrong?

I copied and pasted the exact following text.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]
"UpperFilters"=-
"LowerFilters"=-

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Cdr4_2K]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Cdralw2k]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Cdudf]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\UdfReadr]

Your help would be appreciated

Hi I had the same thing on my acer, not even a year old. I just did a reinstall of windows, from the disks I made when I got the laptop and that sorted it OK, you will need to save everything mate as your HDD will be cleaned by the reinstall. I know that this will take some time to do and you will need to reinstall all your stuff and update everything that needs it, but it is a sure way of doing it.

You might try and find a driver for the drive before all that. It might be worth while trying to do a virus or malware scan to see if that come up with anything or even do a system restore to before the time this problem started. Hope you get it sorted soon mate.

Regards Wez
