Okay, I have to admit it. It has been years since I bought a new tie. My question is - what would you recommend these days to go with a navy blue suit that would not look old and tired? Not only do I think the ties I have are not the right width, they also look dated to me.

I would stick with a conservative look and wear a plain white dress shirt. For the tie, I would go with a striped pattern. I would probably wear a red/navy blue striped one. It may not be very flashy, but it never goes out of style.

I would go to a decent gentlemans suit shop..... have a look at the displays and ask for advice. It's always better going for a timeless smart look rather than the latest fashion that will last seconds and possibly not compliment you if your not used to the latest fasions (like me!!!).
Hope this helps |
