The above diagram is technically a frame, if I've confused anyone by calling it a packet lol

But the point remains that when you connect to the server, you are basically telling the police exactly where you are and what box you are using. They would obtain where you are from by using your IP address, and would obtain what box you were using from your MAC address

From this diagram

we can see that an ethernet packet contains the senders/destination MAC/IP address as well as the data thats being sent down the line. In this case, its a couple of lines of code. It would be pretty damn hard to prove that you didnt know. Its not like purchasing a PC with pirated windows. You used the box to connect to a c/s network

In most cases, YOU flash the receiver with non FTA software, so its wholly your fault

People didnt get arrested in Ireland, as the main server was not situated in Ireland. Before we knew this, yes we were predicting arrests, but once the news came out that the server people were connecting to was only a redirect server, the police couldnt do anything. We were simply saying its simply stupid to place a server in your home country, for people to connect to. If its only a redirect server, then the police have nothing, but if the server was used for c/s, then there would be hell
"It would be pretty damn hard to prove that you didnt know"

As already stated, YOU don't have to prove you don't know. The police have to proved you did. There is a huge difference.
Someone sells you a box and states "I'll email you software you need to make it work" as often happens. You are a complete idiot and don't add 2 + 2 and realise what's going on and instead do as the seller tells you., or at least you tell the police that. THEY have to prove beyond any doubt that you are not a complete idiot and you KNOWINGLY stole encrypted TV.
Whatever you may think that is not the open and shut case you think it is.

The sellers defence is that they sell receivers with FTA firmware, and their proof would be their listings. The police could use your PC to see your downloaded files

It doesnt matter if you are an idiot or not. If that said software is on your PC, that will be used as evidence against you

Lets weigh it up. Every time you send an ethernet message, you send an Ethernet frame out with the above information.
They can use your PC as evidence
The software would be on your PC
The equipment would be used as evidence

Pretty clear cut if you ask me, unless you take measures to protect yourself first

Thumbs up Re: Starview server raided

and also why would u connect a STB on a vermin network when it clearly states that you are not allowed to use any other STB apart frm the one provided to you.

And am sure looking at the packets which are sent and received that would be logged as well for evidence which may then be used in court.

As pointed above by waqas that sellers do sell there boxes as a FTA and they hold no responsibilty of what you do with it afterwards

now if they knocked on anyones door they would first confescate all electronic equipment and send it for forensic examination... Later it would show all sites and forums you have visited + all softwares which you have downloaded... And they will add 2 and 2 together and say you have modified this box to obtain channels Illegally.

In court if you go and say that '' oh I didn't know that this was illegal'' lmao because it wouldnt at stand in court @ all.

Simply put it this way ..... they would have enough evidence to procecute you thats for sure after checking your equipment + your records from your ISP.

Never under estimate them because they not that stupid to come knock on your door unless they have enough evidence to take it further.

p.s They can obtain a Warrant with a good reason very easily I assume and then come barging into your door.... which in return would then see that you have a Box plugged into there Line which was not provided by them, and also they would then take Photo graphs I assume and it will show that you are receiving channels which have not been paid for. Not to mention the STB would then be confescated and would show that it was modified.

Am sure in the past people have been procecuted for having Modified boxes plugged into the VM line and receiving channels without a Valid subscription.
