Default Html

Is this something I really need to know if I'm going to build up a blog and a website? And why, exactly do I need to know this and more importantly HOW do I get to know it?

Nowadays, you can get away with knowing little or no HTML to build up a blog and website. I would, however, recommend that you try to learn some of the basics so you can tweak things around as you like. You'll also be able to solve some problems that you may run into with the code.

A good place to start would be HTML Goodies
I have used that site for years, and it is very thorough. It goes from the absolute basics to some very advanced stuff. It shows how to do different things (add backgrounds, add tables, etc) step by step. The primers are very useful.

I would love to learn html, but I did find that when developing my website I didn't need to know one single thing about it.

I think it's both a blessing and a curse. Anyone can make their own webpage nowadays (which is great), but a smaller amount of people can do it from scratch. I was a dork though, and loved fooling around with the coding for hours just so I could see what it could do. I think HTML is starting to die out a bit now, thanks to XML.

HTML is so easy and not important for blogs.
But If you want to add something up in your blog then you need to know html.

So what is the difference in HTML and XML? Is HTML becoming like latin - so that by the time I learn the language it is dead and buried?

Nah - HTML is the basic format - XHTML is the jazzed up version - and XML is a format that works with XHTML.

Or something like that...

Well html is a doddle i think, if you're completely new to the idea then i'd try one of the 'for dummies' books, as they generall tend to cover everything in detail. Although... if you're building a blog, theres plenty of online bloggers that'll do all the code for you, the same applies with some ready built websites. Good luck!

So then what is the difference between html and wiki? I do know some wiki, and I have heard that it's a lot easier than html.
